Hertford 27 19 Cuffley
Cuffley took on Hertford 4th team in their first league game of the season away at Hertford.
Cuffley started the game strongly with a couple of commanding breaks, however it was Hertford who opened the scoring against the run of play with a breakaway score. Cuffley immediately retaliated with a fantastic try from new fly half Ross McBride. After a strong break and a few side steps from the No 10 he managed to power through taking several defenders with him over the line.
Cuffley continued to apply the pressure but Hertford managed to score two tries against the run of play and Cuffley found themselves trailing for the second time. Although being two scores down and injuries to line out second row Dom Waller and new fly half Ross McBride, Cuffley hit back with try from debutant Chris Webb the younger brother of Cuffley's Captain Tom Webb who was unavailable for this match due to a knee injury picked up against South Oxhey. Picking the ball up Chris straightened up and beat multiple defenders with both pace, power and guile before dotting down with Chris Wilson converting.
Hertford, unfortunately, hit back again to restore their two try buffer. Although, not for the first time this season, Cuffley showed fantastic team spirit and the forwards took control of the game with several phases of play with Big Ross Lovett finishing off superb work from the forwards. Converted by Chris Wilson.
Cuffley then started pushing for the win with some marvelous play linking forwards and backs resulting in Reece Tyler taking a fantastic catch and trying to power his way into the opposition 22. Again Cuffley showed some great desire and the entire Cuffley team were looking for the winning try but unfortunately, in doing so, allowed Hertford in to score the final try of a very good game.
Huge improvements were again shown by Cuffley and we thank the support and Hertford for a great game!
