Cuffley 1st 50 11 South Oxhey
Cuffley took on South Oxhey at Rosedale on Saturday, 8th September 2012.
Cuffley came flying out of the blocks with 2 early scores, the first through great work from fly half Matt Jones, finished off by Ollie Newland and converted by Chris Wilson. The second score came through another good piece of play from Jones, the forwards taking it on with No.8 Phil Rose bulldozing over to score. Wilson again converted.
After the great start, injuries took their toll on the Cuffley back line with both Matt Jones and outside center, Guy Gerrard, having to be substituted. South Oxhey fought back and then took the lead after some weak defence from Cuffley.
Skipper Tom Webb restored Cuffley's lead with the score of the day, taking the ball from inside his own half and dotting down under the posts, Wilson converting.
However in the final 20, with further injuries to the back line and Tom Webb handing the Captain’s armband to Phil Rose, limping off due to a knee Injury, South Oxhey took the game away from Cuffley and had the game won.
Tremendous spirit was shown by Cuffley to rally back with two late scores coming from the forwards., Mick Levene touched down after some excellent work from the forwards, converted by Wilson. Phil Rose went over for his second score of the day which came from another good scrum from the solid Cuffley pack which still left the No 8 with a bit to do before getting over the line.
A fantastic effort by all and certainly more positives than negatives for Cuffley to take into the first league game. Thanks to South Oxhey for the match and to the great support by the Cuffley fans!
