Cuffley 1st 47 10 Watford
Cuffley put Watford to the sword with a 7 try to 2 victory played at Old Totts ground. The game was in doubt when the ref failed to turn up, Willy stepped up reluctantly to take on the task, it can't be easy to ref your own team mates you have just spent an hour warming up with, but he had a good game as ref and we wouldn't have had a game without him.
As usual we started slowly and took a well worked Watford lineout drive and score to get our heads into the match. Once we started to get front foot ball we showed our class, our backs forced Watford to spill the ball we poured through got the ball to Keilt's who ran over to score, Crabby added the conversion this was his first of 6 on the day. Jonesy was next to score after Crabby ran through their 10 and put his half back partner away who side stepped and stormed over under the sticks. Matt Deamer went over in the corner and Ross (Pikey) ran a mazey line to score on debut, Rosey crashed over from a tap penalty to end the half 33 -5.
The Second half started and we dominated the first 20 minutes but only scored one try but it was quality with Crabby breaking through again he drew the defence and a well-timed pass put Ross away for his second try under the posts. With the game in the bag and looking to the next match we put our bench on and rested some people to try to nurse them through to play our remaining games, off came Ash, Ollie, Dom and Daisy and on came Tredders, Perry, Elvis and Nick Sirbek. Watford to their credit regrouped and had their best spell and scored a try, but it only made Cuffley pick their game up again, our last score came from a high bomb out of our 22 from Matt Deamer the ball carried on the wind landed between two defenders who probably thought they had time to clear their lines, but Matt had other ideas he was on his kick before Watford he hacked the ball on and only had to gather the ball for a great try but he lost his feet and went to ground, our support play was arriving and Dan Pearce picked up the ball for a walk over try, Crabby made the conversion to end the match, 47 v 0.
This was our penultimate league game of the season we now travel to Biggleswade on Saturday April 5th for a winner takes all game between the two top teams. As Big Ross said to me in the week it's all down to us as a squad to go up there and finish the job, but whatever happens in two weeks' time we have had a fantastic season and have achieved so much as a club you don't get yourselves in this position at the end of the season without hard work, determination and most of all the will to play as a team and for your mates. Keep the Faith. H.
