Old Ashmolean's 27 25 Cuffley
Cuffley's first loss of this season's league campaign came away at OA'S in a hard fought match that should have been won by Cuffley. We started slowly and only played well in fits and a start throughout the first half allowing OA'S to get into the game. Both sides had early penalties this was followed by OA'S scoring a breakaway try against the run of play.
Cuffley started to settle down into their game plan putting OA'S under pressure, only our lack of patience stopping Cuffley scoring. We kept the pressure on and were rewarded with Jaleth, in his first game this season, making a fine line break to give Jonesy a run in under the post, converted by Jaleth.
At this point last night's 40th DINNER COMES INTO PLAY AND IM A BIT CONFUSED HOW THINGS WENT, I'm winging the next bit.
Again we dropped off to allow OA'S to score before half time score 15 v 10 to OA 'S.
We regrouped at half time and came out to start the second half confident we would pull back the score to win the match. The way we started proved to me that we had improved so much this season as a team, we had OA'S on their line defending for their lives only for them to break away on two occasion s to push the score up to 27 v 10.
Cuffley really showed their mettle by fighting back with a fine driving lineout try for Nick and penalty try from a strong 5 meter scrum, Ja stepped up to kick the conversion having slotted an earlier penalty with the score pulled back to 27 v 25.
The last 5 mins was spent on their line but we lacked a bit of control needed to take the game. Having lost the game on the positive we came back and almost won, our set pieces work well and we kept our shape in the tight defensive areas but we have work to do on our open play tackles. Our determination to get back into the game is proof that we are going in the right direction. H
