Cuffley 53 15 Hendon
Playing at home again for the second week Cuffley could not have had a better start to this season's league campaign. Entertaining Hendon is always a joy, but this was more than we could have hoped for with an 8 try to 2 drubbing. Cuffley played with real purpose and direction from the off, our forwards laying the foundation for the backline to cut through Hendon's defence. We had a few changes from last week and some boys having to play out of position but we soon got into the action, with all the play in Hendon's 22.
Hendon fought their way out into our half and they were first to score with a 3 point penalty, against the run of play. Cuffley really got into the game at this point drawing level with Crabby's penalty, this was soon followed by a fine period of play up to half time with Cuffley scoring try's through Alex x 2 Jonesy x 2 and Crabby 1 with Crabby converting 3, with Hendon getting a try of their own, the score was 36 pts to 8 pts in Cuffley's favour at the turn around.
Cuffley started the second half on the front foot and were soon camped on Hendon's line and scored a great try from a driving lineout with Deano touching down as he sat in at the base of a driving set move straight off the training pitch. After this with the game in the bag we lost our shape a bit this to be fair was not helped by Hendon getting the sympathy card from the ref it seemed we could not play to his liking at all.
We got our heads back into the match with two fine individual breaks from Crabby with him scoring his second try and then gifting Willy with a run in under the posts this was the worst case of jug avoidance seen at the club for a long time. Two more conversions by Crabby ended our scoring for the afternoon, the game ended on a comical note Mick and Ollie being yellow carded for who knows what, and Hendon being given a penalty try.
Tom came on for Crabby for the last play of the game and would have got on the score sheet had Deano not knocked on and then attempted to take one of their players head off at the same time. The way we played in our units on the field and then to bring all the separate aspects together to make up a fine all round game was worth all the hard work put in on training nights, fantastic team performance boys.
Great to see Elksy back on the field and I thought Tredders had a great game with Jonesy at skipper leading from the front and Crabby's 23 point haul. I think the most important point is we played Hendon off the park with teamwork, WELL DONE BOYS.
