Harrow 2nd's 36 7 Cuffley 1st
HMMT 3, Round 3
Cuffley travelled to Harrow Saturday to a ground where we never seem to do well or have any luck. Harrow are a very good hard running team that have not lost for over two seasons, but in the first half Cuffley showed the desire and fire in defence that shocked the home team, again our scrum dominated the set pieces and our lineout worked well, the backs tackled really well frustrating there bigger runners time and again, with Michael Stevens back at 10 and Daisy and Jack all of which are not the biggest of guys, but as the old saying goes "it's the fight in the dog not the dog in the fight".
With Matt Deamer solid as were Ronan and Willy. Cuffley had to rearrange the back row just before the game, with Ollie Newland stepping in at 8 and Eric and James Hardacre making up a very green unit, but they played really well to hold Harrow in the first half, all they had to show for their efforts at the break was a 3 points to nil lead.
Half Time: Harrow 3 - Cuffley 0
The second half was hard to watch as injuries and appalling decisions from the referee cost Cuffley dearly, we lost Daisy, Deamer and Eric all with head injuries mostly down to the type of tackle normally picked up and heavily penalised by most officials but not today!!
We started losing our way and fitness on a very hot day, conditions started to tell and Harrow getting every decision going their way, they ran in a few tries. Although the game was well lost for Cuffley we never gave up and scored a fine try, with Ollie picking up at 8 drawing the tackle which came very late and as was most throughout the match and illegal and again totally ignored by the referee, he found Sam on the wide blindside who released the evergreen and all ways underestimated Chilli (James Charlton) to run around his winger to score a moral boosting try. Harrow scored a final try to end the game.
Not a great day but we are a resilient bunch and I'm sure we will bounce back. The effort today was commendable, our front row are a match for all comers and the work rate by Burns and Phil was great, but the brutal truth is our fitness was not up to scratch and we must work on that. Next Saturday we will have a friendly fixture probably away but not yet confirmed, we intend to make this game available to all you guys who want a casual run out.
