1st XV 2015/16 Season

Cuffley 1st 26 10 Hitchin 2nd

Saturday finally saw Cuffley firsts win their first game of the season , having been so close to finishing off teams on more than a few occasions. We have played well in quite a few of our games this campaign but just lacked that edge you need to win. This week we played well from the start and kept playing until the final whistle, we have and are still struggling with injuries , but the welcome return of a few key players made us a different team.

With Ross out injured, Matt Jones back fit was capt on the day and showed what we have missed recently with his usual aggressive game, Crabby made a welcomed rare appearance and the old partnership soon began to fire. With a fine display by Simon at inside centre ,Daisy and Numbers smashing everything in their orbit ,our backs looked strong. Will Payne was back to his best form capping a great comeback with a fine 3 try haul, Jack Hamilton chased a long restart kick and benefited by pouncing on a loose ball to dive over for our fourth try.

Our forwards were also back to their best dominating the much bigger Hitchin pack. Marc Bright was man of the match again ,that's two weeks running. The other returning players proved we are a really good team if we can get our best team out. Ollie Newland ,Dan Taylor aided Michael Foreman in the best back row performance of the season. Our front five again played really well, Philip Paul Rose benched again and his support proved invaluable as he brings his own destructive style on the the field, it's a thankless job on the bench for both Phil and Joe Garrett, but I never hear a bad word from either that's what makes a rugby club.

Great result well done boys.
